You know the song “Jingle Bells,” right? That super catchy tune you can’t help but sing when you hear sleigh bells or see snow falling? Well, here’s the scoop: it was actually written for Thanksgiving, not Christmas!Crazy, right? So where did “Jingle Bells” come from?Back in 1850, a guy named James Lord Pierpont wrote the song. He was living in Medford, Massachusetts, at the time—a snowy little town that was famous for its sleigh races.Yeah, real sleighs, horses, snow, and all! Pierpont was apparently inspired by the sound of horses pulling sleighs with bells jingling on their harnesses as they raced through the snow. Super festive, even if it wasn’t meant for the holidays. The original title?“One Horse Open Sleigh.”Not exactly the most exciting name, but it paints the picture. He first published it in 1857, and even though it was supposed to be a fun song for Thanksgiving, people just naturally started associating it with Christmas.Probably because of all the snow, sleigh rides, and wintery vibes. Over time, it became a holiday classic.
